On 7 August 1983 a car bomb exploded in Baalbek, where the Syrian forces, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and the nucleus of Hezbollah were based, killing 35 and wounding 133. The "Front for the Liberation of Lebanon from Foreigners" claimed the operation.
