The Christian parties of the Qornet Shehwan gathering took to the streets after the Future Movement and the Progressive Socialist Party joined them, holding a sit-in in Martyrs' Square to demand the departure of the Syrian army and the exposure of Hariri's killers. Gebran Tueni led the famous oath from the Martyrs' Square platform. Two days later Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah told al-Manar that Syria would withdraw under international pressure, not because of the street; he described Resolution 1559 as an American–French arrangement and a "French pledge to Israel", and said Jumblatt's relationship with Damascus had ended in the last few years.
