●The "thank you Syria" speech

PartiesHezbollahAmal Movement8 March alliance

On 8 March 2005 Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah addressed hundreds of thousands in Riad al-Solh Square, thanking Syria for its role in defending and rebuilding Lebanon, rejecting Resolution 1559 and holding that any Syrian withdrawal is governed by Taif alone, standing by the resistance's weapons and rejecting the naturalisation of the refugees. He called for a unity government or a dialogue table to complete Taif, and for the truth about Hariri's assassination to be uncovered "away from political exploitation"; he answered those who had called the crowd a "mob", and warned Washington, Paris and Israel against interference: "Lebanon is immune to partition, immune to strife, immune to defeat." The speech gave its name to the 8 March camp.
