✍The Taif Agreement

PartiesNational Movement / LeftHezbollahGovernmentPresidencyLebanese ForcesSaudi ArabiaSyria / Syrian ArmyUnited States

The signing of the Taif Agreement to end the civil war and strip the presidency of its powers.

Note: Taif ended the war and was ratified by parliament, becoming part of the constitution. But it was born under Saudi–Syrian–American sponsorship, and the implementation of its clauses (the Syrian redeployment, the abolition of political sectarianism) was left to outside balances of power, so its application stayed selective and the state remained hostage to its sponsors.
