On 12 August 2006, the day after Resolution 1701, Israel threw some 130,000 troops into the largest airborne operation in its history (fifty helicopters carrying hundreds of soldiers) with the aim of "reaching the Litani". Wadi al-Hujeir became a graveyard for armour: about forty tanks and bulldozers destroyed, more than twenty dead and 110 wounded according to the resistance, while Israel admitted seven dead and sixty wounded at Ghandouriyeh, and fighting at Qlaiaa, Beit Yahoun, Tiri and Mashrou' al-Taybeh. The resistance shot down a helicopter with the new "Waad" missile on Mrayameen hill west of Yater, killing the five on board by the enemy's admission. That evening Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said 1701 was "unfair" but that the resistance's responses would stop when the aggression stopped, and the government approved the resolution unanimously.
