On 13 August 2006 Israel escalated before the ceasefire took effect: twenty martyrs in raids on Burj al-Shamali, Jibsheet, Qaaqaiyat al-Jisr, Bazouriyeh and Baalbek, twenty heavy shells from the warships on Rweiss and Haret Hreik in two minutes, and the fiercest bombing of Tyre. The resistance fighters foiled a commando landing at Boudai west of Baalbek (an officer killed), destroyed seven tanks and bulldozers in the Khiam plain, Mashrou' al-Taybeh and Wadi al-Hujeir, and fired 250 rockets, some at Haifa. The Israeli government approved 1701, and Olmert said it "creates the conditions for implementing 1559".
