That day Khatib managed to take control of a heavy artillery base at Beaufort castle, and soldiers there declared their mutiny against the command and their adhesion to the "Arab Army of Lebanon". The Marjayoun and Khiyam barracks fell, as did the Arman barracks in Tripoli. The mutiny spread to the barracks of Sidon and Tyre, the combat school, and the First Anti-Aircraft Regiment at the Henri Chehab barracks in Beirut, in addition to military posts in Tyre and Bint Jbeil.
