●Israel withdraws from the Mountain and Beirut

On 3–4 September 1983 the Israeli army withdrew from the Chouf, Aley and the suburbs of Beirut to the Awali river line. The Israelis told the Druze and Christian forces the date of the withdrawal in order to push them into fighting over control of the barracks. This was always Israel's strategy: to create chaos in the areas it withdrew from.
