After midnight on 25 July 2006 Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah declared that the confrontation had entered the stage of "beyond beyond Haifa", holding the Israeli attack to be part of an American project to reshape Lebanon and the region, and rejected any humiliating terms in the diplomatic effort: "Dignity we cannot allow anyone to squander"; a day before the Rome conference.
