On 21 May 2004 Hezbollah held a mass march in the southern suburbs, the marchers wearing shrouds in solidarity with the fighters in Najaf and Karbala during the Mahdi Army's first uprising against the American occupation, and Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah addressed it.
