●Support Committee iftar: 1997 in review, "the resistance needs money, not men"
On 24 January 1998 Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah presented the harvest of 1997: the enemy's highest human losses since 1985, the destruction of fortified Merkava tanks, fewer martyrs than in 1996 and more operations, fewer civilian martyrs "thanks to the Katyusha, not the monitoring committee", and Ansariyeh and Jabal al-Rafi "brought down the myth of the army and the Mossad in the eyes of the Israelis themselves". He said foreign delegations came to Lebanon looking for a role in exchanging remains and to market "security arrangements" in exchange for withdrawal, while the party "has had one language since 1982: withdrawal without restriction, condition or guarantees", expecting the resistance to force "a unilateral decision to withdraw". Then he asked openly for financial support, against the 8.5 billion dollars a year for Israel: "You may not be able to pay a thousand dollars; pay a thousand lira", told the story of "the resistance's money box" and the village old woman's five thousand lira, and explained that "the resistance does not need men but money and weapons".
