On 18 April 1980 the collaborator Saad Haddad's militia intercepted a UNIFIL supply convoy and abducted the Irish soldiers Thomas Barrett and Derek Smallhorne, who were found killed with marks of torture; the most violent attack on UNIFIL in its early years.
