⚰The Miziara massacre

On 16 June 1957, during a funeral mass in the church of Miziara in the Zgharta district and at the height of the parliamentary election battle, gunmen opened fire on the supporters of the Douaihy family allied to Youssef Karam and Father Semaan Douaihy, killing between 20 and 30 people, women and children among them; the massacre became the origin of the Zgharta vendetta and of the Frangieh family's arming.
