In March 1976 Joseph Abou Khalil, on the instructions of Bachir and Pierre Gemayel, sailed to Israel to ask for ammunition and met Shimon Peres, who promised weapons and training; in the same period the first Israeli delegation (led by Binyamin Ben-Eliezer) landed on the Jounieh shore to await Dany Chamoun. The beginning of the military alliance that became public in 1977–78.
