●Second extension of parliament

On 5 November 2014 parliament extended its own term by two years and seven months, until June 2017, on the pretext of the presidential vacancy and the security situation; the Free Patriotic Movement and the Kataeb boycotted the session. Two days earlier Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah had said from the Ashura platform that the party was ready for elections or an extension, "and what we can never be ready for is that someone takes the country into a vacuum", and asked about the presidency: "Do you want the presidential post to stay empty for years?"
