●Rustom Ghazaleh dies in Damascus after a beating

On 24 April 2015 Rustom Ghazaleh, head of Syria's Political Security Directorate and former head of Syrian intelligence in Lebanon, died, weeks after his dismissal following a dispute with the head of military intelligence Rafiq Shehadeh in which he was beaten; no official statement was issued, and commentators linked his death to the secrets of the Hariri and Bank al-Madina files, without conclusive evidence.
