On 9 November 2009 Saad Hariri formed a national unity government five months after his designation, following 14 March's victory in the June elections; it included the opposition with ten ministers, and Hariri visited Damascus in December. Two days later Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah called on Martyr's Day for a government of "genuine national cooperation", not "a government of barricades or a government of mines", and for a ministerial statement with realistic aims: easing hardship, fighting corruption and postponing the major disputes.
