On 6 May 2018 the first parliamentary elections since 2009 were held under a proportional law with a preferential vote in 15 districts; the Future Movement fell from 33 to 20 deputies, Hezbollah and its allies won the majority, and turnout was 49%. On 7 May Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah called the result "a great political, parliamentary and moral victory for the choice of resistance", pointing to the rise in Shia turnout in Baalbek-Hermel from 54% to 63%, refusing "a return to any form of majoritarian law", and calling for "a spirit of cooperation" in forming the government.
