●Day of the Wounded: "no remains-for-bodies swap, the prisoners come first"

PartiesHezbollahIsrael / IDF

On 4 December 1997 Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah addressed the wounded at the Wounded Foundation's ceremony: the martyr, the wounded, the prisoner and the fighter are "one category differing in the outcome", the wounded man is "rewarded every second", and the prisoner's condition is harder ("Sheikh Abdel Karim Obeid and Hajj Abu Ali Dirani in solitary cells"). He revealed that Israel had sought since the Ansariyeh ambush, and again after Jabal al-Rafi, to exchange its soldiers' remains for the bodies of the martyrs, and that the party refused and insisted that the exchange include the living ("the number is negotiable, the principle is not"), declaring that "the prisoners are a priority even over the bodies of the martyrs… and we are in no hurry", the position that produced the June 1998 deal.
