On 1 October 1981 a car bomb exploded outside the PLO's offices in Fakhani in West Beirut, killing at least 50 people (more than 80 by some estimates) and wounding more than 250, most of them civilians; the deadliest operation of the wave, and Yasser Arafat at the time suspected Israeli intelligence of being behind it. The "Front for the Liberation of Lebanon from Foreigners" claimed the operation.
