On 25 May 2013, on Resistance and Liberation Day in Mashghara and at the height of the battle of Qusayr, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said the Syrian uprising had turned into armed takfiri groups backed from abroad and that "Hezbollah cannot but be on the other side, on the other front", telling his opponents: "Be where you wish." He counted Syria the resistance's back and its fall to those groups a danger to Lebanon, rejected a parliamentary vacuum and accepted an extension when necessary: "The state is better than any vacuum and better than any chaos."
