On 22 May 2012 eleven Lebanese Shia pilgrims were kidnapped in Azaz near Aleppo by gunmen of the Syrian opposition; they were released in October 2013 through Qatari–Turkish mediation. On 25 May Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said the kidnapping of the Lebanese would not achieve its aims and refused to exchange them for detainees in Syria, repeating: "In Syria we are for dialogue, for reform and for national unity", and holding political and media incitement responsible for the Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen clashes.
