On 19 October 1988, at 1:25 in the morning, Abdallah Mahmoud Atwi, "al-Hurr al-Amili" (born in Kfar Melki in 1967, in the party since 1982), blew up a car carrying some 500 kilograms of explosives at two Israeli convoys as they met at the crossing gate into occupied Palestine (the Fatima Gate) near Kfar Kila; the freed prisoner Mustafa Hammoud from Markaba accompanied him, because the occupation barred cars driven by a single person. The Israeli military spokesman admitted 12 soldiers killed and 14 wounded, and Rabin said Israel was facing people "who do not hesitate to use their bodies as bombs".
