On 5 June 1967 Israel launched a lightning war in which it occupied Sinai, the West Bank, Gaza and the Golan within six days. The defeat of the Arab armies raised the fedayeen organisations as an alternative and pushed the Palestinian resistance towards Jordan and Lebanon.
