●The Maani Vanguards break away (Druze Jihad Organisation)
PartiesLebanese Army
The Druze Jihad movement (known officially as "Vanguards of the Maani Army – Druze Jihad Movement") was founded. The founding came as a direct response to the developments on the ground in the Lebanese civil war, specifically after the official Lebanese army split and disintegrated into rival factions at the start of that year. The conservative Druze lawyer and politician Farid Hamadeh announced this military and organisational faction to confront the influence of Kamal Jumblatt and the Lebanese National Movement, making this date the organisation's actual appearance on the Lebanese scene.
