On 14 September 2022 Sali Hafez stormed the BLOM Bank branch in Sodeco with a toy pistol to recover her deposit for her sister's treatment, in a wave of armed bank hold-ups that had begun with the Federal Bank incident in August; the banks closed their doors for a week, and "stealing one's own deposit" became the symbol of the collapse.
