●Arrest of Amer Fakhoury, former Khiam prison warden, after his return to Lebanon

In September 2019 Amer Fakhoury, the former official at Lahd's army's Khiam prison and a holder of American citizenship, returned to Lebanon through the airport after some twenty years. General Security held his passport, and after an article in "al-Akhbar" accusing him of taking part in the torture of detainees it arrested him on the orders of the military court; General Security said he had confessed to dealing with the Israeli army, and former detainees testified to his torturing them. He was released on 16 March 2020 and flown out of the embassy by an American helicopter.
