Members of the "Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine" hijacked four passenger aircraft; three were bound for New York and one for London. Three aircraft were forced to land at "Dawson's Field", a remote desert airstrip near the town of Zarqa in Jordan, formerly known as the Royal Air Force's Zarqa base, which then became the Popular Front's "Revolution Airport".
