●Syrian commandos enter West Beirut

On 24 June 1986 Syrian commando units, with some 800 soldiers and security men, began calming the fighting around the camps in West Beirut; the first return of Syrian forces to the capital since their departure in 1982, paving the way for their full entry in February 1987.
