On 22 March 1945 Lebanon signed the Charter of the Arab League in Cairo as a founding member with Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Yemen, and the same month it was among the founding states of the United Nations; the Charter fixed Lebanon's Arab face within its independence.
