●Nasrallah: "the Feltman government"

PartiesHezbollah8 March allianceGovernment

On 7 December 2006, the seventh day of the central Beirut sit-in, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah called Siniora's government "the Feltman government", after the American ambassador, accusing it of conspiring during the July war and demanding a unity government with a guaranteeing third; Siniora refused to resign and the sit-in went on for 18 months.

Note: Calling the government "the Feltman government" reflects an accusation that its centre of decision lay in the American embassy; whether or not the accusation is true, the mere fact that it became widespread political rhetoric reveals the erosion of the Lebanese's trust in the independence of their institutions, for which the responsibility lies with diplomatic practices that exceed the limits of Article 41 of the Vienna Convention.
