⚔Israel's red lines

PartiesIsrael / IDFSyria / Syrian ArmyUnited States

An unwritten understanding conveyed by Washington between Damascus and Tel Aviv in April 1976: the Syrian army would not cross a line about 15 km south of the Beirut–Damascus road, would not deploy surface-to-air missiles, and would not use its air force. It was tested with the Syrian forces' advance into the Bekaa on 9 April 1976, when they stopped at the line.
